Urgent Callout - Email Writing Guide
Hello BCCAG Members and Friends
I’ve just read the full text of the Prime Minister’s Gas Fired Recovery message. With the smokescreen of the Technology Investment Roadmap removed, it’s actually worse than press reports and commentary have suggested.
So I’m making this URGENT CALL to all BCCAG members and supporters. I’m especially appealing to those who haven’t previously joined such actions. We have a critical one week window to let our elected federal parliamentarians and government ministers know that we don't want their gas-fired recovery. We want a renewables led recovery instead. We want to initiate real downward pressure, both on emissions and on energy prices as well as create the foundations for a reinvigorated jobs rich and healthy economy. Only a genuine renewables lead recovery can achieve all of that at the same time.
On the 6 October the Federal Treasurer will be revealing the budget for 2020-21. The budget paper will show how the government plans to invest our money in an economic recovery. Whilst there is much hype about investing in technologies of the future, their plans to prop up the gas industry and the failed and expensive technology of carbon capture and storage (CCS) are less visible.
This is where each and everyone of us can contribute. Join the growing tide of outrage directed at the government. Help bombard them with messages and phone calls. Please write to 2 parliamentarians to tell them of your concerns. This is our way of drawing a line and saying enough is enough. If you are usually an ALP supporter, consider choosing Joel Fitzgibbon as one of those you write to. He needs to know that ALP supporters want serious climate action, not more gas.
To make it easy, we have drawn up a template for action. It includes suggestions of who to write to, the form your letter might take and some hints about what you could include.
