The forum is organised by the Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network (PECAN) and Bayside Climate Crisis Action Group (BCCAG). PECAN, as a network, comprises a range of community groups, all concerned about real action on climate change.
Melbourne has recently been shrouded in smoke haze from the worst bushfires the country has faced. Our suburbs are getting hotter and we are losing cooling trees to new housing developments. Flooding events will increase in our low-lying areas due to sea level rise and ongoing stormwater challenges.
Come and join with other residents of Port Phillip and Bayside to hear about the local impacts of climate change for our communities.
Both Port Phillip and Bayside Councils have declared a Climate Emergency. What does this mean and how can the community participate in action for a better future?

Professor Nigel Tapper
Professor Nigel Tapper completed his PhD on urban climate, a subject matter that was distinctly unsexy at the time. Now, thirty years later and on a warmer planet, Nigel is involved in an expert panel on infrastructure and settlement of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the Cities as Water Supply Catchments program, helping to bring down the mercury in our urban areas and the planet as a whole. Lalitha Ramachandran
Lalitha Ramachandran was Senior Project Manager in Sustainability at the City of Port Phillip between 2005 and 2015. She operates her own environment consultancy, Ecosens, and for the last two years she has been based in South East Water as Technical Project Manager.

Rob Gell AM FRGS FEIANZ
Rob Gell is a geographer and specifically a coastal geomorphologist, specialising in the environmental processes that continually shape our coastlines. As such, he has an expert understanding of the Victorian coastline and its formation.

WHO IS THE MODERATOR?
Esther AbramEsther Abram has over 20 years experience in the not for profit sector, working in senior leadership roles for environmental and philanthropic organisations.
Esther is the Giving Green Manager at the Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network. Esther has worked with the AEGN for three years, resourcing funder collaborations and supporting members to build their understanding of environmental issues and environmental organisations.
